Jobs in Education
Many people are working towards jobs in education, notably undergraduate students who will go on to sit a PGCE course after they graduate, which is considered by many to be a fast track to jobs in education. The PGCE course requires the student to have graduate with an undergraduate degree in a relevant subject and they will be taught a number of skills relevant to pursuing a career in education. Many people use this course as a foundation to attaining jobs in education.
Jobs in education are very appealing to some people, particularly young graduates with degrees in sciences and maths as there is currently a national shortage of people able to teach this subject. The government is currently attempting to attract more young graduates to jobs in education by awarding them with grants to study teaching courses. Many people are also attracted to jobs in education by the prospect of the golden handshake which the government gives to many new teachers, particularly those who will teach sciences.
Many people who pursue an academic career will find themselves working in jobs in education. Many people who perform many years of study at a university will end up working in jobs in education as a university lecturer or member of research staff. However jobs in education may not necessarily entail teaching. There are a variety of other jobs in education such as administrative and managerial positions.
